So many people have baking soda in their refrigerator to take away the impurities and bad smells that might come from foods that have been in there for too long but did you know that baking soda is good for so many other things? Recently I was watching an episode of Dr. Oz and I started to remember all the old tricks that my Italian nana used to have. I actually saw a few of them that she used to tell me about being shown. I had to laugh and just think to myself it always goes back to the old natural remedies. So without further ado here are some things that Baking Soda is great for.
Okay so this one might sound a little strange but I am telling you that it really does work. Take a strawberry, a little lemon juice and some baking soda and mix it together thoroughly. Create a paste out of it by adding more baking soda as needed. Use that for about a week to brush your teeth and you will be amazed by how much of a whiter brighter smile you will have.
We all have facial cleanser sitting around our bathrooms somewhere. Take out that facial wash and again mix enough baking soda into some of it to create a pasty scrub. Apply this in a circular motion around your face. Do this once a week to exfoliate your skin and remove dead cells to have a younger looking appearance.
Well, Summer is right around the corner and we all know that means spending more time in the pool. Although being in the pool feels great if you keep the chlorine in your hair for too long you will notice it start to become discolored and your ends will start to split. Mix some dish soap with baking soda and apply it to your hair. This will give you cleaner hair then you have ever had but always remember to use a good conditioner after you do this as it will dry your hair if you don’t.
Who likes having dry feet with dead skin? Anyone? No. okay then you want to do this. 🙂 Mix 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda with warm water. Soak your feet for about 15 minutes in order to soften your feet. After that create a paste of just baking soda and water to rub on the rough spots. If you do this twice a week for a month you will notice a huge improvement in your feet.
If you are looking to get brighter skin then you will want to mix baking soda with about a teaspoon of lemon juice and a small drop of olive oil. Leave this on your face for about 8 minutes after you clean your skin. You will notice your skin starts to brighten. Don’t do this too often but maybe once a week at most.
So you have yellow or discolored nails. You don’t want to use harsh chemicals or pay hundreds of dollars to fix the issue. Well good, you probably don’t have to. Mix some Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide, about 45 cents worth and use it to scrub your nails. They will instantly become whiter and you will be shocked what they look like after just a couple of treatments.
One of the things that drives me crazy is that people seem to forget to clean out their hair brushes. they use them over an over again and just throw them back in the draw without thinking about how much fungus they collect. There is a quick fix for this. Get a bowl and fill it with some warm water and about 4 tablespoons of baking soda. Leave your brushes in their for about 10 minutes. No more fungus. If you really want to disinfect further just add a couple of drops of bleach. Drops not spoonfuls.
Okay so you have a little acne. I always say that raw honey is the best but you can use some raw honey mixed with baking soda and apply daily to fight off the acne. This helps to clear the grime out of your pores. This is one of the best kept secrets that many celebrities use. Again, no harsh chemicals that can irritate your skin further.
