Frizzy Hair Pic

Some women use curling wands, hot rollers or other hair styling tools to create beautiful bouncy curls, and some women have a head full of natural curls. If you’re one of those lucky women who have naturally curly hair, you probably know that it’s not all that glamorous. Curly hair is known for being more prone to split ends and frizz, which makes styling and handling it quite challenging. Which is why we’ve decided to gather the best 7 hair tips and tricks that will help you keep your curls healthy, beautiful and shiny.

Use a Wide-Tooth Comb

Every curly-haired woman knows that hairbrush is definitely not her best friend. Hairbrushes are known for ruining the curls definition and making your curls look like a frizzy mess. Instead of using a snagging hairbrush, use a wide-tooth comb to gently detangle your hair before you wash your hair, this will help you to reduce hair tangling during the shower. Also, you can use your fingers to gently comb your hair while it’s wet.

Don’t Be Afraid of Skipping a Shampoo

It’s highly advised to not shampoo hair every day, especially for curly girls. Curly hair features dryness, and over-shampooing strips the hair of its natural oils, which can make it even drier and more prone to breakage. Try to wash your hair with mild shampoo once every two or three days, and make sure you use alcohol and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. You should also consider to co-wash your hair with cleansing conditioner instead of washing your curls with shampoo.

Stay Away From Cotton Towels

Regular cotton towels are just too rough for your hair and can cause hair breakage and split ends. Instead, use an old t-shirt or a microfiber hair towel to wrap your hair after a shower. This will not only will soak all the excess water off your hair without damaging it but it will also leave your hair much softer.

Switch Your Hairdryer Nozzle to a Diffuser

Whether you wish to style your curls or simply to quickly dry them after a shower, make sure you use a hairdryer with an attached diffuser. Unlike a regular hair dryer nozzle, that can leave your curls frizzy, on the other hand, hair diffuser, if used correctly, reduces frizziness and maintains the natural shape of your curls.

Leave-in Conditioner

Due to the uneven shape of curly hair, the natural sebum doesn’t spread through the entire hair shaft of curly hair, which makes it drier, more fragile and more prone to frizziness than other hair types. This is why it’s extremely important to moisturize your hair and keep your curls hydrated at all times.

The best way to keep your curls moisturized is by applying a leave-in conditioner along with your hair styling products after each hair wash. You can even use a few drops of coconut oil or argan oil, or any other product of your choice, as long they are free of harsh ingredients that can damage your hair, such as silicone, alcohol, and sulfate.

Deeply Moisturize

Another great way to keep your curls healthy and bouncy is by adding a deep conditioning hair mask to your weekly hair care routine.

Once a week apply over your hair a hair mask of your choice, you can even use your own homemade hair mask, and leave it for at least 20 minutes before following with your regular hair wash routine.

Embrace the Scrunching Technique

When it comes to curly hair, scrunching is the key to adding volume and enhancing the shape of your curls. In fact, scrunching should be part of your entire hair care routine. First, you should scrunch excess water off your hair when you step out of the shower, then scrunch your hair when you apply hair styling products, and lastly, you should scrunch your hair whenever you use a hair diffuser.
